Cross-Cultural Engagement: It Matters Most in the Age of AI

AI is rapidly changing the work of negotiation. Zoom reports that 54% of employees want post-meeting summaries and action items, while only 39% receive them. The point is not that every negotiator is using automated transcripts yet; it is that AI is rapidly normalising the capture, compression and redistribution of commercial conversation. That makes cross-cultural judgement even more important, because what gets transcribed is not always what was meant, and what gets summarised is not always what mattered.

AI Governance Cannot Be Left for only the Giants to Negotiate

Last year, I had the privilege of moderating a Council of Europe Hackathon on democracy: Outsmart Disinformation, Protect Free Speech. The event sat within the wider New Democratic Pact for Europe, a project concerned with revitalising democracy at a time of rising polarisation, declining trust, digital manipulation and democratic backsliding.

Setting People Up for Success (and What Happens When We Don’t)

Most people want to do well. They want to grow, contribute, feel proud of their work, and feel like they’re moving forward. But the truth is, people can only thrive when the foundations underneath them are solid and this is the part organisations often miss.

Precision, Pressure, and People: Leadership in Pharma

Over 30 years of working with leaders across diverse industries, I have found that many of the challenges leaders face are universal in nature and cut across industries. This, however, does not mean there are no people challenges unique to certain sectors. In my experience working within both pharmaceutical and diagnostic environments, I have consistently observed a set of leadership and cultural tensions that, if left unaddressed, limit performance and threaten sustainable success.

The Talent Crisis in the Pharmaceutical Industry

There is a Growing Problem in the Pharmaceutical Industry… and it is not What Most People Think When people think about the pharmaceutical industry, they usually think about science, medicine, research, laboratories, or regulation. Very few people immediately think about people. But interestingly, one of the biggest challenges many pharmaceutical companies are facing right now has very little to do with science itself.

The Missing Foundations of Growth: Why Strengths Matter More Than We Think.

The Missing Foundations of Growth: Why Strengths Matter More Than We Think.  Organisations expect their people to develop, grow, adapt and perform but beyond training courses, we rarely give them the tools to do so.  To really help people thrive, we need to offer support for their mindset, nervous system and beliefs and one step towards this is understanding their strengths.

Reducing Call Centre Agent Turnover: A Practical Guide for Managers and HR

High turnover is one of the most costly and disruptive challenges in call centres. In the UK, contact centre attrition is often around a quarter of the workforce annually, well above the national average. Each departure can cost thousands in recruitment, training, lost productivity, and customer dissatisfaction. For managers and HR, reducing churn is less about quick fixes and more about redesigning the employee experience from hiring through progression.

The Communication Context Gap: Why Gen Z Struggle to Communicate and How to Help them Thrive

A few years ago, I was asked to train a group of PhD hires at an investment bank. We had three whole days to explore communication, impact and personal brand.  The training manager scheduled a call a week or so before the programme and explained that one particular participant (let’s call him Eric) was really struggling with communication. Eric was technically brilliant, however his team had flagged his communication skills as a real area for development.

What performing comedy taught me about creating psychological safety in the training room.

I have been both delivering corporate training and performing comedy for over 20 years – and in some ways these two parallel careers have little in common.  For example I’ve never opened a comedy gig by sharing my learning objectives for the session. I’ve also never told a joke about my mother-in-law in a leadership workshop. Actually, come to think of it, I might have done... Most of the time though, what you say in comedy is not appropriate for training and vice versa.

The magic of decluttering your files

For over 30 years we have been saving files in shared drives on networks, and more recently many people have moved to cloud filing. Although cloud filing is different technology for some reason, it is being treated the same. Who doesn’t love to create a little yellow folder!
